 A TIP FOR FANS ...

Lovers of classical music have probably noticed that almost all of the NPR Stations have replaced music with talk.  But NPR's "Performace Today" is alive and well on the web, with archived programs going back seven days. The audio streaming quality is excellent and - with a little effort - you can link your audio system to the computer's audio output.

Here is the link: http://performancetoday.publicradio.org/ .

Another plug:  The Grand Teton music Festival near Jackson Hole, Wyoming, is an extraordinary summer performance venue, with chamber music during the week and a full symphony orchestra (with brilliant players from  orchestras around the country) usually directed by Donald Runnicles (current director of the San Francisco Opera).  Much of that music is captured on Performance Today - if you spot it there, don't pass it by.

Recently I attended an all Wagner program (August 17 - 18 - Meistersinger, Lieder, Gotterdammerung, soprano Christine Brewer, Runnicles at the podium, and an orchestra with augmented brass that filled every inch of the stage); it exceeded any live -- or recorded -- performance of Wagner I've ever heard.
