WE NEED TO CHOOSE OUR 'RELIGIOUS CRUSADES' VERY CAREFULLY

RELIGIOUS CRUSADES ARE….

[A] SCARY
[B] ALWAYS A BAD IDEA
[C] POLITICS BY ANOTHER NAME
[D] Fill in the blank…

I want us to seriously consider the idea that the political control of climate, if it were ever REALLY effective, would surely trigger world wars because every large scale climate change produces winners and losers. Losers will go to armed conflict if it is in their perceived interests to do so….

And I want us to carefully rethink just how far we want to take-as-a-given that the notion of human-forced global heating rises to the level of a religious crusade.  I would, for one, prefer continuing, intelligent dialogue (recall the dialogue means listening as well as talking) for at least another five years or so.

Why? You ask.

A Vision Concerning “The Answer to Life, the Universe and Everything”

fush

THE TEASER:

Some kind of very, vivid, very detailed display was hovering high over the bedside table. I decided it was a holographic calendar. It was a remarkably beautiful and well realized – not something you'd ever see at the price of this room.

A shifting seascape floated a few inches from the ceiling. In it, swimming tropical fish held little signs proclaiming the time. The time, according to these little tropical fish, was 4 AM, 183 years after the day I checked in.

Sure.

Then the holographic calendar floated down from the ceiling and disappeared into the bedside table, making a muffled surf noise.  One of the fish hovered briefly, winked at me, then dived into the tabletop with a plop.

I took two deep breaths and hurriedly looked for my cell phone next to my wallet and keys. Under it, I discovered a glossy colorful sheet, about the size of a magazine cover. I hesitated; then I slid my phone aside and picked up the sheet. It was very thin, flexible, but unexpectedly heavy.

Brilliant glowing characters danced across the page in red, gold and silver - like one of those web ads ... but in very convincing 3 D.

A dancing title identified the sheet as my ‘G**Brochure’ complements of the ‘St. Adams Society’.

Below the title, there were quivering choices like INDEX; WEATHER; THE ANSWER to LIFE, the UNIVERSE and EVERYTHING; ROOM RATES; NEARBY RESTAURANTS; SUPER DISCOUNTS...

A ‘vision’ is normally something we 'moderns' tend to understood as a particularly vivid rendition of an insight.  So go with that if you will.  I have to note that we ‘moderns’ will not seem so modern in a couple hundred years.  A few explanations were needed to unpack this vision – they were condensed from some of my longer discussions.
